Bertha has worked in the field of Food, Nutrition and Agriculture for 14 years in various countries across Africa. Bertha has worked as a Nutrition Officer, Advisor and/or Consultant with several organisations, including the FANRPAN’s Agriculture to Nutrition (ATONU) project in Ethiopia and Tanzania; Action Against Hunger in Malawi; FAO in Malawi and Zambia; WFP school feeding and SUN Movement project in Zambia; African Development Bank in Zambia and Mozambique. In all these portfolios, she supported government initiatives in mainstreaming nutrition into agriculture programmes and building systems for management of acute malnutrition and hunger. Ms Mkandawire-Munthali has built capacities of government ministries of health staff and systems in active case identification for treatment and follow-ups. She has served on various nutrition technical working groups in Malawi and Zambia. Her broad understanding of nutrition issues (specific and sensitive) in the African continent is at highest levels to lowest levels; that is, at policy, programming and community interventions’ implementation making her a biggest asset to any organisation that she had worked with and consulted for.
